South Poll Calves
Spring is calving season. We shoot for April 1st which means we put our bulls in with the herd on July 1st. The gestation period for a cow is approximately 9 months. The calves stay on with the moms until they naturally wean themselves (typically around 6-9 months old).
If you are interested in purchasing a “veal calf” (4-6 months old and still on mama’s milk) please contact us. Nursing calves are available from August through October every year for $500 each.

Mother/Daughter South Poll Breeding Stock
We are growing our herd to approximately 30 breeding cows, 30 yearlings (1/2 heifers and 1/2 steers), and 30 calves (90 head total) such that we produce approximately 30 finished animals off the farm every fall. October and November is typically when animals are sent to the butcher shop, as they are in their best physical condition after a long summer and fall of fresh pasture.

South Poll Bull
We keep two South Poll bulls on the farm. The kids name all of the animals so we have a “Ferdinand” and a “Fartin’and.” One bull can generally service 20-40 cows and we use two for a little competition and redundancy in case something “goes wrong” with the hardware or if Murphy’s Law starts acting up. These bulls don’t bring much to the table for 10 months of the year but they make their hay rations up by keeping the circle of life going on the farm.
